We Met In San Diego while she was painting at SpeakHer open mic and holiday trunk show! Independent designer and fine artist, Monique Jenkins was painting on a huge canvas in near darkness, a J. Dilla portrait at her feet…
I had to say hello.
You should too. You can see more of Monique’s work at MoniqueJenkins.com
I spent a beautiful, rainy day at The Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art. It was mind blowing to say the least. They have larger than life works of arts… like a giant stack of plates. lol. My favorite was the ceramic Michael Jackson and his pet chimp, Bubbles. :)
Later I went to see their recently opened exhibit about the advent of the California home and how it’s modern style (ie: sleek lines, Eames chairs, etc) continues to influence design today. I loved learning about how the innovative styles came to be during the post war era when soliders needed places to live after coming home from war and the resources to build were scarce. Hence, the simplicity.
I love vintage furniture and have a few pieces at home, so it was interesting to learn the reasons for the looks.

Goto Casino Royale on the strip for $1 margaritas and get a free “fun book” for $50 in slot money and other coins. It’s a shanty compared to the other casinos, but who else has grannies glued to their slots smoking thru their throat hole?
